December 24th – It’s was interesting to see how the coaches did when ranking a tournament like the one played this week in the inaugural St. Louis Jingle Jam Presented by Optical Expressions. Each coach participated in the process of ranking the teams in their respective brackets to determine the seeds used in developing the first round match ups.
So how did this year’s Jingle Jam play out as compared to the pre-tournament seeds? Let’s take a look.
In all but 4 of the 13 brackets, a 6, 7 or 8 seed finished among the top 3 teams in their bracket. In the 6th Girls White Bracket the 6 seed, Lindbergh Flyers, took home the championship after upsets over Bethalto (Williams), Ft. Zumwalt West and Bethalto (Wallace).
In 5 of the brackets, the chalk held as the #1 seed captured the title.
- Pioneer Elite (5th Boys Red)
- Ft. Zumwalt South (Sefrit) (6th Boys White)
- Pioneer Elite (7th Boys Red)
- Parkway West (8th Boys White)
- Ft. Zumwalt South (7th Girls Red)
The 8th Girls Red bracket was the only bracket with a top 3 seed among the top 3 finishers as the #1 seed Eureka Wildcats lost in the 3rd place game to St. Clair. The #4 seed, Marquette Mustangs took home the title in this particular bracket with a 43-33 win over Ladue.
Below is the summary of how often each seed won their bracket:
- 1 Seed – 5 times
- 2 Seed – 4 times
- 3 Seed – 2 times
- 4 Seed – 1 time
- 5 Seed – 0 times
- 6 Seed – 1 time
- 7 Seed – 0 times
- 8 Seed – 0 times
