Round 1 Recap – St. Louis Jingle Jam

It was a great night of basketball Tuesday as the 2016 St. Louis Jingle Jam tipped off in gyms across the St. Louis metro area.

4th Boys White Bracket

Chalk held in the top half of the bracket as Kehrs Mill and St. Dominic both advanced to the Championship bracket. However on the bottom side of the bracket, upsets were the story as Kirkwood Pioneer Elite White (7 seed) defeated Francis Howell (2 seed) and Rockwood Summit (6 seed) knocked off the 3 seed, Liberty (Bombers) White.

5th Boys Red

The #1 seed, Ft. Zumwalt South Bulldogs showed why they were the consensus top seed in the 5th Boys Red division with a 41-8 victory in round1.  The Bulldogs will now face Parkway West on Wednesday night at MICDS Court 1, 8:15pm.  Parkway West prevailed in a close one, 32-30, over Lutheran High.

On the bottom of the bracket, the #2 seed Liberty Eagles (Red) advanced with a win over a feisty St. Alban Roe squad.  Liberty will now play the 3 seed, Francis Howell White in round 2.

5th Boys White

Parkway South was the lone upset winner in the 5th White bracket, knocking off the 3 seed, Parkway West.  Parkway South will face the #2 seed O’Fallon Assumption in round 2.  Liberty White (1 seed) and Pattonville (4 seed) will square off in the other semi final match up.

5th Girls Red

It was straight chalk in the 5th Girls Red division with Seckman, Ft. Zumwalt West, FZW Purple and Clayton all advancing.  Clayton won a close battle against the 6 seed Marquette, 22-20.  Marquette will now face FZS with Hillsboro playing Northwest in the Consolation bracket.

6th Boys Blue

Several competitive games took place in the 6th Blue division on Tuesday night with Liberty White, Parkway West, FZW Purple and St. Peters Catholic all advancing. Semi final games will take place at MICDS Court #3 tonight.

6th Boys Red

Arguably one of the most competitive divisions with the local youth basketball scene, the 6th Grade Boys teams as part of the 6th Red division put on a show Tuesday night.  The lower seeds advanced with Ft. Zumwalt West, Parkway West, Kirkwood and Marquette all set to tip off tonight at Kirkwood Holley in the semi final round.

6th Boys White

Northwest (6 seed) marked the big upset in the 6th Boys White division defeating MICDS, 22-21 in round 1.  Northwest will advance to play Liberty Red who defeated Parkway West Meert. Festus caught fire and knocked off St. Dominic 64-40 and will get the #1 seed, Marquette Mustangs in semi final action at Marquette Small Gym tonight.

6th Girls Red

Overtime and Double Overtime was the theme in the 6th Girls Red division Tuesday night with several close games making for an exciting night of basketball.  Liberty Red prevailed in OT over Bethalto and then lost in Double Overtime to Eureka, 20-18.  Eureka went on to defeat Bethalto to earn the #1 seed from their pool.

Ft. Zumwalt West will face Eureka in the championship game Thursday night after beating Rockwood Summit and Marquette Blue.  Rockwood Summit will play Liberty Red for the 3rd place game with Bethalto playing Marquette Blue in the 5th place matchup.

7th Boys Blue

Down goes the #1 seed in the 7th Boys Blue division with Northwest upsetting Oakville Gold, 30-21.  Northwest will now place Parkway South for the chance to play in the championship game Thursday night.  Liberty White defeated Ft. Zumwalt South Silver and will play Francis Howell North in the other semi final contest.

7th Boys White

The favorites prevailed in round one with St. Paul, Liberty Red, Ft. Zumwalt South and Parkway South all advancing. Ft. Zumwalt South (Sefrit) won last year’s 6th Grade Jingle Jam and is poised to make another championship run in 2016. Action gets underway at 7:15pm for the Championship bracket games with Consolation bracket games starting at 5:30pm at Fox High School.

7th Boys Red

Similar to the 7th White division, chalk held as the Marquette, Eureka, Ft. Zumwalt South and Ft. Zumwalt West all advanced with comfortable margins. It’s a battle of the Rockwood Schools (Marquette and Eureka) to see who will face one of the Ft. Zumwalt Schools (West or South) in the championship game.

7th Girls Red

Lindbergh Gold (4) seed squeaked by the 5 seed, Ladue, 16-14 and will now play the #1 seed Parkway West on Wednesday night. Marquette Blue will play Webster Groves in the other semi-final.

8th Boys Red

6 seeded Parkway Central Red knocked off Assumption (3 seed), 44-39 on Tuesday night and will now play the #2 seed, Marquette Blue at Marquette in one semi final.  The other semi final contest will feature Lafayette (1) vs. Rockwood Summit (4).

8th Boys White

Upsets almost ran the table on Tuesday in the 8th Boys White division with Liberty White being the only lower seeded team to win. Fox (8) knocked off Rockwood Summit (1), 37-27 and will now play the (5) Parkway Central White.

8th Girls Red

Ft. Zumwalt South showcased why they were the #1 seed winning 57-20 over Ladue White. South will play FZS who defeated Eureka. Webster Groves (2) survived a tough battle with Marquette, winning 32-31 and will play Lafayette who also won a close game vs. Northwest, 30-26.

Several of our Pool Play brackets will take shape after tonight’s round 2 action as the games continue in the 2016 St. Louis Jingle Jam!
