Jingle Jam – Night 1 Recap

It was a great night for the opening round of the 2018 St. Louis Jingle Jam Feeder Tournament. 

Chalk held in round 1 of the 4th Boys Red bracket. The #1 seed, St. Peter’s Catholic showed why they were deemed the top seed in the division with a 50-8 victory.  Kirkwood (2 seed) and Francis Howell (3 seed) also enjoyed convincing wins and will face each other in an 8pm game at Ft. Zumwalt East tonight.

The 1 and 2 seeds held serve in round 1 of the 4th Boys White bracket, however the 3 and 4 seeds were upset. Ft. Zumwalt South (5 seed) and Hillsboro (6 seed) advanced to the winner’s bracket defeating Timberland and Lutheran St. Charles.

Top seed Eureka advanced easily in their opening round game in the 5th Boys Red bracket. The surprise of the day in 5th Boys Red came in the form of #7 seed, Ladue, knocking off Wentzville Holt. Eureka will face Francis Howell North Black in round 2 and Ladue will meet up with Liberty Red. Ladue and Liberty Red played last weekend with Ladue winning a close 33-30 game. 

With the exception of a Warrenton Warriors upset over Parkway South Blue, chalk held in round one of the 5th Boys White bracket. Warrenton will meet up with Ladue (Goellner) while Ft. Zumwalt West (Reese) will get the top sed, Hillsboro (Poyner).

Similar to the 5th Boys White bracket the 5th Boys Blue bracket there was only one upset on the opening night and it was in the form of a 5 seed knocking off a 4 seed. 5 seed, Francis Howell (O’Haire) will meet up with top seed Liberty White at MICDS. Ladue will play Wentzville Holt (Winans) at Ft. Zumwalt West in round 2.

In arguably the most competitive bracket of the 2018 St. Louis Jingle Jam, the favorites advanced in the 6th Boys Red bracket. Top seed Columbia defeated Eureka 34-29 and will play Ladue in round 2. Kirkwood Red defeated Parkway West and will face a very strong Timberland squad. Timberland rolled to a 69-16 victory over Ft. Zumwalt West in the 2 v 7 game.

Favorites once again were the story in round 1 of the 6th Boys White bracket with Webster Groves, Ft. Zumwalt West and Lafayette advancing. 5 seed, Liberty knocked off Francis Howell Gold and will meet top seed Lafayette at Lafayette tonight.

The story was the same in the 6th Boys Blue division with only the 5 seed delivering any upsets, if you can call a 5 defeating a 4 an upset. Parkway South Blue (2 seed) will meet Kirkwood (3 seed) at Kirkwood tonight. Wentzville Holt (5 seed) will play Liberty White (1 seed) at Zion Lutheran.

Top seeded Kirkwood Red knocked off a tough Seckman Blue team in the opening round of the 7th Boys Red bracket. Kirkwood will play cross town rival Webster at Hancock High School in round 2 tonight. Francis Howell White put up an impressive 55 points in their victory over Eureka. The #3 seed Francis Howell will play Liberty Red who defeated Wentzville Holt 41-32 in the 2v7 game. 

Chalk held throughout the 7th Boys White bracket creating some very interesting round 2 matchups. St. Charles West will square off with Parkway South at Ft. Zumwalt West. In a battle of two very physical teams, Webster Groves will play Lutheran Cougars at Hancock Middle.

Top seeded Clayton advanced and will meet Seckman White in round 2 of the 7th Boys Blue bracket. Liberty White will tip off with St. Dominic (Engelage) in the other 2nd round game on the winner’s bracket side. 

The rare upset of the top seed happened in the 8th Boys Red bracket with Oakville knocking off Parkway West. Oakville will play St. Dominic at MICDS in round 2. The 6 seed, Ladue upset the 3 seed, Webster Groves and will play Ft. Zumwalt West.

Just as was the case in the 8th Boys Red bracket, 8 seed Eureka defeated top seed Marquette in the 8th Boys White bracket. Eureka will meet up with Liberty White at Marquette tonight. Chalk held on the bottom half of the bracket with Ladue defeating Parkway West in a close 39-37 game. Rockwood Summit cruised past Northwest in a 40-17 win.

It didn’t just happen twice, but actually three times as each of the 8th grade boys brackets had an 8 seed upset a 1. The Tigers knocked off Parkway South and will play Seckman in round 2. 6 seed, St. Dominic defeated Parkway West and will play 2 seed Francis Howell.

Favorites advanced in the 5th Girls Red division. Eureka will play Clayton and Liberty will play Hillsboro in semi-final games. 

The same held true in the 5th Girls White bracket. 2 seed Kirkwood will play 3 seed Liberty at Notre Dame tonight. 1 seed Timberland will meet up with 4 seed Northwest at Lafayette in the other semi-final.

Timberland defeated St. Dominic in a close 22-21 game and then knocked off Eureka 20-11 to start 2-0 in pool play of the 6th Girls Red bracket. St. Dominic would beat Eureka 24-15 in the other pool play game.

Interesting semi-final games are set up in the 6th Girls White bracket with Orchard Farm set to play Notre Dame and Timberland will play Parkway West in semi-final match ups. 

In the 7th Girls Red bracket, top seed Ft. Zumwalt South defeated Timberland in round 1 and will meet up with 5 seed Rockwood Summit. Summit knocked off Marquette (Green) 31-19 at Marquette in round 1. Eureka Purple held serve defeating Oakville and will play 2 seed Clayton tonight.

As turbulent as some of the boys brackets were, the girls brackets see the favorites handling business. This was the case in the 7th Girls White bracket with all top seed advancing. 1 seed Ft. Zumwalt East will play 4 seed Lindbergh. 3 seed Lafayette will host 2 seed Notre Dame at Lafayette tonight.

Mehlville offered up the first real upset in a girls bracket, knocking off 3 seed Parkway South. 6 seed Mehlville will play 2 seed Ft. Zumwalt South in one semi-final. St. Dominic gets top seed Eureka in the other Semi-final in the 8th Girls Red bracket.

Rockwood Summit has started off 2-0 as they knocked off Notre Dame and Ft. Zumwalt North in the 8th Girls White bracket where pool play took place. Ft. Zumwalt North defeated Notre Dame in the other game of the night.
